Founded in 2009 Drawchange is a non-profit organization dedicated to aiding global change by supplying the world’s children with empowering art experiences. Drawchange contributes to the education of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable children by bringing art into their daily lives. This art-based organization meets children in their environment; after school programs, orphanages, and homeless shelters in the U.S. & beyond.
“Art was my outlet as a child. It helped me cope with life. I want to show children that they can also use art as a way to deal with their current circumstances. Art is empowering. It shows you first-hand that you can attain anything you can imagine. It helps you escape to anywhere you want to go. It’s difficult to soar above your current circumstances if you can’t even imagine them!" Writes Jennie Lobato, Founder of Drawchange.
Children from the Drawchange program’s artwork was proudly hung in the Living Gallery in Brooklyn as part of a curated exhibit focused on making art more accessible through use of technology.
Drawchange uses Art as a vehicle to connect to students while enriching their abilities in all other curriculum subjects. The amazing staff of Art Therapists, Psychologists, Child Behavior Therapists, Art Teachers, and Fine Artists use a strategy that is aimed to spark the passion of learning through art in these children and beyond.
“Children are naturally creative. However, many of the world’s children have no means or encouragement to envision a break in the cycle of poverty. Drawchange provides the means to improve school attendance, leading to gains in academic performance, by supplying the materials and art therapy-based instruction that inspire children worldwide to create real and lasting change for them, their families and their communities.”
